To be honest, while I adore my job as a wealth manager at Deerfield Financial Advisors, I stare at screens all day (three at a time), so it’s a joy for me to consume information by simply listening.
Audio allows me to stand, walk, enjoy the outdoors, and even walk my dog! I’ve found that stepping away to listen to podcasts, especially those with spiritual or reflective themes, helps me reconnect with myself, balancing out the demands of my day.
Today, I’d love to share some of my favorite podcasts with you.
On Purpose With Jay Shetty
The podcast On Purpose With Jay Shetty looks at the relationship between psychology, spirituality, and life lessons. A former monk-in-training, Jay Shetty offers timeless wisdom, motivational tales, and actionable strategies to help listeners lead more purposeful and happy lives.
Why it’s one of my favorite podcasts: Jay Shetty focuses on health and clarity, two subjects that I can consistently apply to my work life, so I regularly follow his teachings.
Happier With Gretchen Rubin
Happier With Gretchen Rubin is a podcast that delves into the art and science of happiness. As a bestselling author, Gretchen Rubin offers helpful advice and ideas on how to foster happiness and contentment in day-to-day living.
Why it’s one of my favorite podcasts: I like that Rubin’s focus is on trying to do things to intentionally create happiness. She’s vulnerable and shares personal stories.
Breaking the Cycle of Poverty
Breaking the Cycle of Poverty is a podcast that delves into the complex issue of poverty in the United States. It explores the root causes of poverty, examines the challenges faced by individuals and families living in poverty, and discusses potential strategies to break the cycle.
Why it’s one of my favorite podcasts: Two reasons: I’m a huge advocate of giving back and this podcast encourages listeners to take action. Also, this podcast is run by an Indianapolis community center right in my hometown.
9 to 5ish With theSkimm
9 to 5ish With theSkimm is a daily podcast that collates the top news stories of the day into small chunks of information. It’s perfect for busy people who want to stay current without spending hours scrolling through news feeds.
Why it’s one of my favorite podcasts: TheSkimm is a two-woman operation that started as an email called “The Daily Skimm” offering a quick skim of the day’s news stories. They’ve built an impressive collection of content since then.
Left, Right & Center
The political podcast Left, Right & Center hosts speakers from a variety of political backgrounds to talk about current affairs. By offering a range of viewpoints on significant topics, the podcast seeks to promote civil discourse and stimulate critical thinking.
Why it’s one of my favorite podcasts: Much like financial advising, where we look at every angle to make balanced decisions, this podcast brings together voices from across the political spectrum to discuss issues thoughtfully and collaboratively.
Maxwell Leadership & Maxwell Leadership Executive
The Maxwell Leadership Podcast provides motivational analysis and useful guidance on effective communication, personal growth, and leadership. For leaders at all levels, Maxwell Leadership Executive offers unique content that explores common methods and cutting-edge leadership techniques.
Why it’s one of my favorite podcasts: A big fan of John Maxwell, I’ve read his books and follow his leadership teachings closely.
Growing With Purpose
Growing With Purpose, hosted by Paul Spiegelman, discusses the journey of professional and personal growth. It explores subjects like productivity, motivation, and mindset while providing useful advice and techniques to assist listeners in reaching their goals.
Why it’s one of my favorite podcasts: Paul Spiegelman is the Small Giants Community co-founder. Small Giants is a book we read as a team at Deerfield because we wanted to adopt the same principles and think about our company as a small giant.
